Dates: Monday evening, September 30th – Friday morning, October 4th
Location: Based at Goddards, Abinger Common, Surrey
We are excited to announce that plans are in the works for our Fall 2019 tour focusing on the Arts and Crafts designs of Sir Edwin Lutyens. The trip will headquarter at Goddards, one of Lutyens early houses (designed in 1898-1900, enlarged 1910). There will be a program of visits to Lutyens houses and other architectural works in the county of Surrey, supplemented by visiting guests, such as Clive Aslet and Martin Lutyens, with expertise in aspects of the architect’s life and design work. Evenings will feature dinner in the common room and discussions as we gather around the beautiful Lutyens fireplaces. On Wednesday, October 2nd, we have been invited to join in a landmark Lutyens Trust dinner at the RIBA, celebrating the 150th birthday of Edwin Lutyens as well as the 100th anniversary of the Cenotaph.
We’ll be sending out more details in the near future, but wanted you to start thinking about joining us. Our thought in organizing a tour of this length was that it would allow our members the options of either making a quick trip to look at Lutyens Arts and Crafts architecture or of combining the Intensive with extra days for their own individual itinerary. Staying in a Lutyens home will allow us time to experience his architecture in a very unique way.
