SPAB Scholars celebrate Goddards

Since 1998, The Lutyens Trust has welcomed SPAB Scholars as part of their programme to join in the many activities that punctuate Goddards week in June, to savour the Lutyens masterpiece and to meet with members and all who engage with this annual study event.

Catharine Bull, SPAB Scholarship Officer explained ‘last year’s group of Scholars were full of tales of the lovely time they had had when joining you and members of the Trust at Goddards. A big thank you to all those involved for making the 2024 Scholars stay at Goddards such a memorable experience for giving them much a rich and memorable experience of the amazing place that is Goddards.’ Here with the kind agreement of the scholars of 2025, we share some of the art they created at the house.

Goddards is, of course, The Lutyens Trust’s headquarters in Abinger Common, Surrey, designed by Edwin Lutyens for Frederick Mirrielees between 1898 and 1900 and extended by him seamlessly in 1910. The pleasure and the benefits of the SPAB guests are entirely mutual and these beautiful images show they appreciated how the house melds harmoniously into its rural Surrey context. Thank you, Ashley, Olivia, Charlie and Katie, it was our pleasure mingling with you and discussing your future trajectories. We wish you every success. Thank you for letting us include some of your work.
